Choose around your household

Different systems.
The right fit matters.

Existing connections, water pressure, space and the way your household uses hot water all shape the recommendation. We explain the work and pricing before you approve it.

Electric cylinders

Repair or replace an existing electric hot-water cylinder, or plan a new installation. We assess cylinder condition, household demand and pressure requirements, along with valves, pipework and electrical supply. A loss of hot water may be a component or supply fault rather than a reason to replace the whole cylinder.

Gas hot water

Gas continuous-flow systems heat water as it is used; gas storage systems keep a reserve ready. We can discuss repairs, servicing or replacement of either type. Gas supply, demand, appliance location, ventilation and flue requirements need assessment before choosing a system or changing from electric. We confirm the appropriate authorised trade scope before work starts.

Heat pump hot water in Lower Hutt

A heat pump transfers heat from surrounding air into stored water. It is a water-heating system, not the same as a room heat pump. Installation needs suitable space, airflow, drainage and electrical supply, with noise, location and recovery time considered. We assess household demand and site suitability before recommending capacity or replacement options; running costs depend on the system and how it is used. See the Panasonic PHE-30ABR 300L installed package and check your upgrade quote.

180L & 300L electric / Panasonic, Haier & Rinnai heat pumps

More litres, or a different way to heat?

Start with your busiest hot-water period, not a fixed people-per-cylinder rule. Capacity does not guarantee a particular number of people or showers: shower flow and length, baths, overlapping use, incoming water temperature and recovery between uses all matter.

Every package price below is subject to a site visit and confirmation of installation requirements. Amounts are NZD. We confirm suitability and any other work in your quote before installation is agreed.

Keep a suitable existing setup

180L electric cylinder

$3,600 + GST $4,140 incl. GST

Same-location, like-for-like 180L mains-pressure replacement. Subject to a site visit and confirmation of installation requirements. Includes new valves, electrical reconnection and old-cylinder removal/disposal.

When to consider it

If your existing 180L cylinder generally meets demand and now needs replacement, this may be a straightforward option. If hot water regularly runs out, first assess the fault and usage rather than assuming another 180L will solve it.

What to check

Peak use and time to reheat between showers; access, pressure, connections and available electrical supply. This package does not cover relocation, low-to-mains conversion or a different size.

More stored hot water

300L electric cylinder

$5,450 + GST $6,267.50 incl. GST

Proposed inside or outside installation, including relocation. Subject to a site visit and confirmation of installation requirements. Model suitability and the included installation work are confirmed at the visit.

When to consider it

A larger stored reserve may help with clustered showers or baths when 180L is not enough. More storage does not automatically mean faster recovery; the element, supply and use pattern still matter.

What to check

Room for the larger cylinder, a suitable base and service access, pipe routes and electrical requirements. Our advertised external option is the Rheem MPSS 32530015; not every 300L model is outdoor-suitable, and the calculator does not select a brand. Electrical upgrades or all relocation work are not automatically included.

Change how the water is heated

Panasonic 300L heat pump

$6,699 + GST $7,703.85 incl. GST

Panasonic PHE-30ABR all-in-one. Subject to a site visit and confirmation of installation requirements. Includes the unit, plumbing, electrical work and old-cylinder removal.

When to consider it

For a household considering a different water-heating method, this unit transfers heat from surrounding air into stored water. Compare your daily demand and recovery needs as well as the upfront price; running costs depend on conditions and use, not capacity alone.

What to check

Manufacturer clearances, airflow, drainage, noise near bedrooms or neighbours, electrical supply and access. An enclosed cylinder cupboard is not automatically suitable. A 300L heat pump and a 300L electric cylinder need not recover at the same rate.

Converting from gas adds $300 + GST ($345 incl. GST): total $6,999 + GST ($8,048.85 incl. GST), subject to the same site-visit condition. See the Panasonic package.

Another heat-pump choice

Haier 330L Monoblock

$7,749 + GST $8,911.35 incl. GST

Subject to a site visit and confirmation of installation requirements.

330L rated storage · R290 refrigerant. Compare this with the 300L Panasonic if additional stored water and app control suit your routine. Check access, airflow, condensate drainage and electrical requirements; cabinet dimensions are not the full installation footprint.

Online price is for an upgrade from known electric or gas hot water, with known current capacity, mains pressure and the same location. Relocation, an existing heat pump or uncertain details need assessment.

Gas conversion adds $300 + GST ($345 incl. GST): total $8,049 + GST ($9,256.35 incl. GST). Full work scope and supply availability confirmed at the visit; no additional work is assumed included.

Another heat-pump choice

Rinnai HydraHeat® 340L

$7,749 + GST $8,911.35 incl. GST

Subject to a site visit and confirmation of installation requirements.

340L storage · R290 refrigerant. Primarily designed for outdoor installation. An indoor proposal needs specific assessment, not an assumption that a cupboard is suitable. Check airflow, service clearances, base, drainage, water quality and electrical supply. The removable head belongs to the HydraHeat system, not an arbitrary existing cylinder.

Bring your usage pattern to the comparison.

Tell us how many bathrooms are used together, shower duration, baths, when hot water runs out and how soon it is needed again. If safely visible, note your current model, capacity and pressure. We assess recovery and the proposed location before recommending a size or technology.

Online price eligibility: 180L is for an existing 180L mains-pressure electric cylinder in the same location. The 300L electric path requires an existing electric storage system, known capacity, mains pressure and a known inside/outside destination and location choice. Panasonic pricing requires a known electric or gas system and capacity, mains pressure and the same location. Unknown details, existing heat pumps, pressure changes and unsupported configurations go to assessment, not an invented package price.

Hot-water cylinder replacement cost

Price the whole job.
Not just the cylinder.

There is no single installed price that fits every home. We assess your existing system and explain the replacement scope before you approve a quote. Assessment and call-out charges are separate from an installed-cylinder quote.

What changes the cost?

A like-for-like replacement in an accessible location has a different scope from moving a cylinder, changing water pressure or switching to gas or heat pump hot water. Capacity, household demand, access for removal, pipework, valves and the condition of existing connections all matter.

Electrical supply changes, gas connections and flue work, drainage, mounting requirements and any necessary approvals can add work. Urgency and parts availability also affect the options and timing. We confirm assessment or call-out charges before arranging the visit.

What should the quote include?

Ask us to confirm what is included, excluded or an allowance, so you can compare the full installed scope:

  • The specified system, model, capacity and pressure suitability
  • Delivery, removal and disposal of the old unit
  • Valves, pipework, fittings, insulation and any mounting or drainage work
  • Plumbing and any electrical or gas work, testing and commissioning
  • Any required approvals or compliance documentation, and who arranges them
  • GST, assessment charges, exclusions and how any extra work is approved
  • Expected hot-water interruption, scheduling, and product and workmanship warranty terms

These are items to confirm in your quote, not a promise that every item is included in a standard package.

Get a quote for your home.

Have your suburb, household size and number of bathrooms ready, plus the existing model and capacity if safely visible. Tell us about access, leaks and whether you want a like-for-like replacement or to compare systems.

Call to arrange a site assessment. For an active leak or loss of hot water, explain the fault when you call. An assessment visit does not reserve a completed installation; scope, price and timing need confirmation.

Replacing a faulty cylinder?

Keep away from leaking hot water and wet electrical equipment. Do not remove covers, touch wiring or repeatedly reset a tripping circuit. If you smell gas, leave the area without using switches or phones there; call your gas emergency provider from safety. For immediate danger, call 111.

Read our full safety advice or discuss a repair before deciding to replace. Attendance and charges are confirmed by phone.

Good to know

Hot-water
questions.

How much does hot-water cylinder replacement cost?

Compare the approved 180L and 300L electric, Panasonic 300L, Haier 330L and Rinnai HydraHeat 340L packages in the replacement calculator. Eligibility depends on your selections; unsupported or uncertain configurations need an assessment. Every calculated quote is subject to a site visit and confirmation of installation requirements.

Should I repair or replace my cylinder?

That depends on the fault, tank condition, age, parts availability and your household’s needs. A component fault may be repairable; a leaking or deteriorating tank may need replacement. We assess the system before recommending a course of action.

Can I change from electric to gas or heat pump hot water?

We can assess that with you. A conversion may need supply changes, new pipework, a different location and electrical or gas work. Space, ventilation, drainage, noise and approvals matter. We explain those requirements in the quote rather than assuming every option fits every home.

How much does Panasonic 300L heat pump hot water cost?

The Panasonic PHE-30ABR 300L package is $6,699 + GST installed ($7,703.85 including GST), subject to a site visit and confirmation of installation requirements. It includes the unit, plumbing, electrical work and old-cylinder removal. The site visit confirms whether the package suits your home and identifies any other requirements for an agreed quote before work starts.

Can I replace gas hot water with a heat pump?

The approved Panasonic, Haier and Rinnai heat-pump packages each add $300 + GST for a gas conversion, subject to a site visit and confirmation of installation requirements. Select your current system and preferred brand in the calculator. The visit checks the gas work, location, water connections and electrical supply; uncertain configurations remain assessment-only.

Will a 300L heat pump water heater suit my home?

Capacity alone does not decide suitability. Tell us how many people and bathrooms use hot water, when showers overlap and whether your current system runs out. At the site visit we assess recovery needs, access for moving the old and new units, the available space and manufacturer-required clearances, airflow, drainage, electrical supply and noise near bedrooms or neighbouring properties. An enclosed cylinder cupboard is not automatically suitable for an air-source unit. Call to arrange a site visit ↗ to confirm the location and installation requirements, not a completed installation.

What size system does my household need?

Tell us how many people live there, the number of bathrooms and when showers or other hot-water uses overlap. Storage capacity, recovery rate and simultaneous flow demand all matter; we assess these against the available supply and space.
